After pulling the oil dipstick, you could smell the diesel fuel in the oil. NCFORD. I need to change jobs, $980 for one injector!! I just all four injectors on the passengers side and start to finish it was less that 4 hours. So lets to the math $980-250 for the injector = $730 for labor divided by 4 hours =$182.5 per hour ( actually the shop should be able to do it less that 4 hours.)
All of your symptoms can be caused by loose injectors and/or bad o-rings. As ICP builds during cranking and acceleration, the injector o-rings can become overwhelmed and oil can enter the fuel via the middle o-ring or the ICP bleeds off back to the head via the top o-ring causing low atomization. Both can happen simultaneously.
Injector Removal. Pop your hood and remove the engine cover (the three 10mm bolts under the round plastic covers). You should see something like the photo below. Clean the nuts on the ends of the metal fuel lines, both at the injectors and at the pump. Cleanliness is important here.

Was told I had gotten bad fuel, required change of fuel rail, fuel filter, injectors, fuel lines, fuel tank, fuel filler neck,. With labor cost $8300 and not covered under warranty.
Leaking fuel. Leaking fuel could be symptoms of a bad diesel injector seal. The seal provides a tight protection in the injector that ensures fuel does not escape from it when functioning. When the injector seal is damaged, there will be leaks coming from the connections. Increased fuel consumption could be a leaking injector symptom.
